Debit card transactions are monitored, and card activity outside your normal usage could block the use of your card. Notifying the bank will prevent this from happening and ensure uninterrupted card use.

  • 'Smishing' attacks are used to imitate legitimate companies, via text message. Victims are asked to provide personal information such as passwords, PIN numbers, account numbers, social security numbers, debit card and credit card numbers or other personal information in a reply text message or ask the victim to call a given number to provide this information. Some text messages urge victims to download an item on their phone. This download is often a virus. Many people become victims of identity theft as a result of smishing attacks. Please be aware that Citizens Bank and Trust Company will NEVER ask you to disclose any personal information in the form of an unsolicited text message. Please contact us for more information or if you believe you are a victim of smishing.

    Report suspicious activity to the FTC. If you believe you've been scammed, file your complaint at www.ftc.gov, then visit the FTC's identity theft web site at www.ftc.gov/idtheft to learn how to minimize your risk of damage from identity theft.


  • NOTICE OF EXPIRATION OF THE TEMPORARY FULL FDIC INSURANCE COVERAGE FOR NONINTEREST-BEARING TRANSACTION ACCOUNTS

    By operation of federal law, beginning January 1, 2013, funds deposited in a noninterest-bearing transaction account (including an Interest on Lawyer Trust Account) no longer will receive unlimited deposit insurance coverage by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). Beginning January 1, 2013, all of a depositor’s accounts at an insured depository institution, including all noninterest-bearing transaction accounts, will be insured by the FDIC up to the standard maximum deposit insurance amount ($250,000), for each deposit insurance ownership category.

    The term “noninterest-bearing transaction account” includes a traditional checking account or demand deposit account on which the insured depository institution pays no interest. It also includes Interest on Lawyers Trust Accounts (“IOLTAs”). It does not include other accounts, such as traditional checking or demand accounts that may earn interest, NOW accounts, and money-market deposit accounts.
